How beautiful they are and what beautiful faces they have … Mary statues. At a time when secularization is the norm, chapels dedicated to Mary appear everywhere in the landscape. Chapels with beautiful statues and with candles and flowers that bring peace and comfort in this time of new devotion. For some, a visit to the chapel will revolve around the beauty of the statue. For others, it will be a moment of peace or comfort. And for some, maybe even just a chance to relax on a bench from a bike ride or a long walk and curiously view the statue of Mary.
I enjoy the tour of these locations beceause of the encounters I have with people and the conversations that arise naturally. It gives me a moment of self reflection, a pause when time can stand still for a moment and image and story merge. I keep the stories to myself, but I like to share the beauty of the images.
